Tool Franchise Owners Come From Different Backgrounds: Greatly Contribute to Their Success

Posted by Gina Zimmerman

Matco Tools offers so many people the opportunity to start a new adventure. The path on that adventure to become your own boss can often lead you to unexpected places. Learn more about some of the types of career paths that have led to Matco franchise ownership, and how they are as varied as the people who are behind the wheel of a mobile tool truck.

Here are a few examples of interesting career changes and their success stories:

The Funeral Director

CMatco Distributorraig W. of Shreveport, LA, went to school to become a funeral director and held this career for six years. Growing tired of the long hours, having to work nights and spending holidays away from his family, Craig found himself looking for other options. After leaving this position, he began working in the uniform industry, but found that working in a corporate environment wasn’t the best fit for him. With that, he decided to give business ownership a try and began exploring different franchise business opportunities.

While working in the uniform industry, Craig encountered Matco distributors at auto shops and began to speak with them about their work. It was these experiences that propelled him to begin doing his research on other mobile tool companies in the industry, but with the first opportunity coming from Matco Tools, he jumped in headfirst.

Not knowing what to expect when he first got started did not stop Craig on his path to success. Craig was Matco’s number one rookie distributor his first year in the business and remained one of Matco’s top distributors.

And all of this comes without having any prior experience in the tool industry.

The Retail Manager

Matco Tools - FranchiseeKevin V. of Stevensville, MD, was putting in long hours as a retail store manager. He was frustrated since he wasn’t seeing a dime more in his paycheck or receiving any appreciation for his effort. Looking to start something of his own, Kevin began to search for a solution.

The biggest challenge he faced was finding something he could do on his own that wouldn’t require an overwhelming start-up cost. He wanted to be able to work for himself and still be profitable relatively quickly. That’s when he looked into a Matco Tools franchise and found the solution to his problem. It seemed so well thought out, thorough and affordable that he believed owning a franchise was the perfect decision. Plus, Matco offered a great in-house financing program - another great benefit.

Kevin has grown his start-up franchise into a successful business. He sees the direct results for the effort he puts in and is rewarded in a way that he’s always desired.

No longer “working for the man,” Kevin is his own man now.

The Bakery Sales Manager

Dan BurkettDan B. of Grove City, OH, worked for a wholesale bakery bread company as a sales manager before becoming a Matco franchise owner. He worked in that field for 20 years before getting tired and wanting a change. He managed different routes and sales people, but at the end of the day, what he wanted most was independence and to reap the rewards of having his own business.

Dan started to look into tool companies and talked to all of them. He found that, of all the organizations her explored, Matco impressed him the most. He felt Matco had such a great training program and support that he knew he would need to succeed. Add in the start-up financing options and he was sold.

Dan had very little experience in the automotive industry, yet within a year’s time had gained such a broad understanding of Matco products that he was able to build trusting relationships with his customers.

Get the benefits of an Automotive Tool franchise without some of the costs and challenges

Posted by Gina Zimmerman

In uncertain economic times, going into business for yourself as a franchise owner may be the right option for you. Many of these opportunities require large financial investments, including a commitment to a specific building location, costs associated with hiring and maintaining employees and other fees associated with running a brick-and-mortar store.

Luckily, there is another option that lowers the financial burdens involved in ownership and provides more flexibility: mobile franchises. Mobile tool franchises like Matco Tools have been around for years and are a popular option over a traditional brick-and-mortar franchise.

The following benefits are six great reasons to go with an automotive repair franchise, such as Matco:

#1 Lower Start-up Costs

Deterred by the amount of capital you need to start a franchise?

With a tool storeTool Store Franchise franchise, some of the most significant start-up costs are lower. For example, purchasing or renting space in a building can be a huge expense, depending on the size of the space, property taxes, additional fees and the real estate market of a particular neighborhood or area.

The costs associated with stocking a store with merchandise can also be high. When purchasing inventory for your Matco truck, you’re likely spending a lot less than you would to fill wall-to-wall displays in a store.

In addition to lower start-up costs, Matco Tools has multiple in-house financing options for qualified candidates, no royalties, advertising or franchise fees, and military veterans are eligible for a special $10,000 incentive.

#2 A Reliable Workforce – YOU!

There is no doubt being your own boss can be highly satisfying. Likewise, having no employees to hire, train and manage has its perks, too. Mobile franchises are usually smaller and easily managed by one or two people. When you don’t have to spend time and money on employees—including salaries, benefits and tax obligations—you can focus your resources on building solid relationships with your customers.

Current Matco distributors often say one of the most rewarding aspects about their tool franchise is knowing the success they achieve is a product of their own hard work. Managers, coworkers or anyone else can take credit for the time and effort they put into their job, but with a Matco franchise you earn all of the credit.

#3 Flexible Work Hours

Tool truck franchise owners have the luxury of setting their own hours and schedules, unlike those who operate traditional franchise stores, which must follow set operating hours. Matco distributors can decide the best times for calling on their customers, and they can arrange their days to accommodate other activities and important responsibilities, such as childcare needs or school events.

Many Matco owners find that their automotive franchises allow them to have the kind of lifestyle they want.

#4 Exposure

One of the biggest challenges of owning a business is increasing awareness and traffic at a store location. Mobile franchises allow owners to travel to their customers instead of waiting for customers to come to them. What’s more, Matco trucks provide free advertising as owners travel from location to location, and it continues wherever the truck is parked.

Every new Matco franchisee receive classroom and field training to learn the ropes of operating a mobile franchise, along with a list of at least 325 potential customers within your market, providing you exposure from the very beginning.

The support does not stop there: All Matco distributors receive professional support from their district managers and other distributors even after the initial training process. In fact, Matco provides more training than any other mobile tool franchise.

#5 Stronger Customer Relationships

Traveling directly to a customer helps build trust and strengthens the relationship. Instead of one-off interactions, calling on customers allows mobile franchisees to get to know not only their customers’ names but also their concerns, interests and even their employees or associates, creating additional ties that may be useful if your customer contact leaves the company.

Matco franchise owners get to see the environment in which their customers work so they can analyze their customers’ needs first-hand. A sales pitch can be much more effective when the suggested product can fill an existing need.

Thanks to the potential customer list that Matco provides, new distributors can begin the process immediately, building relationships and making sales with key customers, which include technicians and garage shop owners.

#6 More Sales

Often customers need a product but do not have the time or resources to get to a store to purchase it. Mobile franchises bring the products directly to the customers, making it easier for them to make purchases and, as a result, increase sales for the franchisee.

Even if a product is not in stock, customers know they can trust their Matco distributor to order the product quickly with virtually no hassle.

With low start up costs and exceptional ongoing support, Matco Tools’ mobile franchises give owners the chance to make a good living. You can read about franchisees’ success story experiences.

Many Matco tool franchisees say they enjoy opportunities associated with mobile franchising that aren’t available through other jobs or other franchise options. Some of these franchisees tell us they couldn’t be happier with their mobile tool stores.

If you want the freedom to run your own business without the financial burdens and restrictions associated with a fixed store location, mobile franchises are an excellent option.

Sign up for a Matco Tools mobile franchise to start taking advantage of these benefits.
